Good Plan Management is a new NDIS plan management service for the Shoalhaven. What is NDIS plan management?

Plan management is one of three ways your National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan can be managed. A plan manager pays your providers on your behalf, checks each invoice against your plan, and keeps track of what you have spent and what is left. It is funded separately by the NDIS, so there is no cost to you.

Plan management sits in the middle. You keep the freedom to use both registered and unregistered providers, without taking on the admin yourself. Read a fuller explainer on what NDIS plan management is.

NDIS plan management in a regional area like the Shoalhaven

The Shoalhaven is spread out, and that changes what you need from a plan manager.

In the Shoalhaven, the Local Area Coordination (LAC) partner that helps participants connect with the NDIS is Uniting, delivering the Partners in the Community programme from its Nowra office. The LAC helps you build and use your plan; a plan manager is a separate part of it, handling the invoices and budget once your plan is in place.

Out here the distances are real. Nowra is the service hub, but a lot of participants live well outside it – down the coast towards Ulladulla, inland, or out around the bay. That is why so many of the supports people rely on come from smaller, independent providers rather than big registered chains. Plan management is what keeps those local providers available to you, because it lets you use unregistered providers as well as registered ones.

It also means a plan manager who answers the phone and pays on time matters more, not less. When your nearest office is a drive away, you should not have to chase anyone. We keep your budget on track and your providers paid, so a long distance never turns into a long wait.

Getting started with a plan manager is simpler than people expect.

Register your interest.
Tell us a little about your plan and where you are on the coast. There is no cost to you and no obligation. You can also ask your Support Coordinator to introduce us.
We confirm the fit.
A short conversation to understand your plan, your providers and what you need. If we are not the right plan manager for you, we will say so.
We handle the setup.
We send the service agreement, get it signed, and handle the NDIA-side activation. The NDIA includes plan-managed funding on request, separately from the rest of your plan.
We get to work.
You get a dedicated plan manager who knows your plan. We pay your providers, check every invoice, track your budget and keep you in the picture.

Common questions

Do I need to drive to Nowra to deal with my plan manager?

No. The Shoalhaven covers a lot of ground, so most plan management happens by phone and email wherever you are, from Berry down to Ulladulla. We can meet in person around Nowra when that helps, but you never have to make the trip to keep your plan on track.

Can I use a small local provider in the Shoalhaven who is not NDIS-registered?

Yes. In a regional area like the Shoalhaven, some of the best supports come from smaller, independent providers who are not NDIS-registered. Plan management is what lets you use both registered and unregistered providers, so you are not limited to whoever happens to be registered nearby.

Does it cost me anything to have a plan manager?

No. Plan management is funded separately by the NDIS, on top of the funding for your supports. It does not come out of the budget for your other supports, and there is no out-of-pocket cost to you.

I already have a plan manager. Can I switch to you?

Yes. You can change plan managers without waiting for your next plan. The NDIA needs to approve the change but typically does. We handle the paperwork so the switch is not a job for you.

Will I get the same person each time, or a call centre?

You get a dedicated plan manager who gets to know your plan, your providers and your goals – not a queue and not a shared inbox. When you call, you are talking to someone who already knows your situation.

How do I add plan management to my NDIS plan?

Ask for it. Tell your planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) that you would like a plan manager, and the NDIA includes plan-managed funding on request. If your plan is already in place, you can ask for a plan change rather than waiting for your next review.
